Girl Dinner is Saving Lives

I've seen a reel stating that the "girl dinner" is merely a trend, being used against women (as usual), promoting unhealthy diet and how influencers are simply bragging about how small their appetites are. But I don't think that's true, I love every bit of this concept, and you should too!

The concept of girl dinner is more than a trend or show off. It's a lifestyle that has been around for centuries. Have you ever seen a dinner plate of a mom's? Generations of mothers have been surviving off of this lifestyle--a party mix for mums. Nibbles here and there. A peasant mama's plate consists of six bread crumbs and one chunk of boiled potato if she's lucky. A modern mama of iPad twins would have something like: leftover yogurt from this afternoon, a slice of an apple, a slice of untoasted multigrain with a slob of PB, and folded deli ham.

It's not really because of the laziness, lack of motivation, a so-called eating disorder or unhealthy habits. For majority of time, it's because I know what I want and the greed of wanting every little fulfillment to my cravings. Some say it's a form of charcuterie. That doesn't do a justice, it's so wrong to compare those two different things. Girl dinner is more than that. It represents a girl's creative flow in her kitchen, her mood of that day, her physical and mental capacity after long day of work, the state of her fridge, her current fixations--a delicious slice of her character. Girl dinner is unplanned, unruled, a B-grade, and a comfort in discomfort. You hunch back to the sink so there would be no crumb left or simply taken over by your inner wild animal to finish up the prey (animal style fries with extra cheese and jalapeños) you hunted (the drive thru took more than 15 minutes).

Leftovers, kitchen failures, miscalculations, cravings but when it's the flavor and texture, not a particular dish... Girl dinner is how women carry their items in highly sophisticated, incomprehensible yet mathematical way due to stupid size of our pockets. Girl dinner is also equivalent to line cook's meal. Kitchen is not your buffet, they say. However, the meals I've witnessed throughout my line cook era is ridiculously horrendous. A plastic container filled with leftover roasted broccoli, crumbs of goat cheese, a green leaf, leftover dill, some diced pickles, two pieces of burnt sausage. MMMM, the war flashback begins. Sure, we do family (a meal cooked for and shared among staff). But life happens and way too often, you may have days that you got to take the matter in your own hands. And there goes another win to girl dinner. She's got you.
